Cleaning and restoration
Removal of yellowed varnish and accumulated grime, retouching of losses, and repair of tears and flaking — always documented, always with reversible materials.
Bath has one of the richest concentrations of fine paintings in the South West — in its museums, its Georgian houses and its private collections. When those paintings need conservation, Rosalind Whitehouse's Frome studio is around half an hour away.
Rosalind is an ICON-accredited conservator (ACR), trained at the National Gallery, London, and a Fellow of BAPCR. She has conserved works by Constable for public collections and treats everything from Old Master panels to nineteenth-century family portraits.
Bath's picture auction houses, dealers and interior designers regularly need a conservator they can trust with clients' pictures — for pre-sale condition checks, treatment after purchase, or advice on whether a painting is worth conserving.
Rosalind works with private owners across Bath and North East Somerset, and with churches caring for altarpieces, hatchments and memorial paintings. Studio visits are by arrangement, and paintings can be collected where needed.

A condition report before you buy or sell at auction can change the picture entirely. Rosalind provides clear, honest assessments of condition and likely treatment costs.
